Born
and raised in the Taishan region of Guangdong Province, China. Yehp
immigrated to the United States at the age of eight and settled
in California. Yehp received his formal training around the Bay
Area. After earning his BFA degree from the San Francisco Art Institute
in 1966, he went on to complete graduate work at the University
of California at Davis.
His recent works are reflections of his cultural heritage. The
titles of Yehp's works suggest an in-depth understanding of Taoism,
geomancy and philosophy. These works are characterized by transparent-like
shapes and images that drift in and out of a paradoxical or infinite
kind of pictorial space.
In Taoism the landscape serves as metaphor for the functions
of Nature; likewise for Yehp the abstract shapes and images point
to a more universal magnitude. It is an order rooted in his knowledge
of Chinese tradition and western art.
Yueon-Gayh Yehp has shown nationally and internationally. His
work appears in private and public collections. Yehp currently
is a Professor or Art at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
